PENEFLIX PICKS: ACADEMY AWARDS: NO WINNERS. BUT ALL FARED BETTER THAN I.

Thank you for entering and playing the game!

My synopsis of the evening will be posted later in the day; fortunately I do not have posting deadlines looming on the horizon which allows the experience to marinate and eventually solidify into a legitimate evaluation.

Since I never win,

Going out a a limb,

There is talent galore,

Excitement, boredom, and more.

Here are my selections,

After days of “reflections”.

Some might call me insane;

But it’s all in the game!

BEST ACTOR:                                     COLIN FIRTH         THE KING’S SPEECH

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:                 CHRISTIAN BALE    THE FIGHTER

BEST ACTRESS:                                  ANNETTE BENING   THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:               JACKI WEAVER      ANIMAL KINGDOM

BEST DIRECTOR:                                  DAVID FINCHER     THE SOCIAL NETWORK

BEST PICTURE:                                    THE SOCIAL NETWORK WITH 4 OSCARS

My prime movie of the year was snubbed with only one nomination for costuming. “I Am Love”, a classic study, portrait of having no control, power over who your heart chooses to love.

February 25th is the final entry day.  Winners will receive gift certificates to their favorite theatre. Good Luck.

For Now…………..Peneflix

PS. YOU MUST SELECT THE NUMBER OF OSCARS THE BEST FILM WILL CAPTURE!

  1. Penelope, are your picks the ones you WANT to win, or those you think WILL win?

    • Nancy, the ones I think are the best in their categories. It was difficult for me only in the Best Actress category. But remember I never win and this time I really stepped otside of the box. P

  2. Darling poem. We’ll see how many stars the star gets!!

  3. Wow! Interesting choices, Peneflix! Fun poem! Hope you are wrong in the best actress category, I think Natalie Portman deserves it!
Looking for your review of “The Housemaid”!

  4. What is your opinion of “Poetry?”

  5. You get the Oscar for “Best Reviewer “!!!!!!!!
    I agree with L. about Portman. S.

  6. Sharp and fun poem, Peneflix. As an avid follower, I’m now looking for how to enter my Oscar contest picks. After finally seeing Social Network a couple of weeks ago, I have to agree with David Fincher as Director. Just need to prep my other picks. I smell victory!

  7. I thought Christian Bale was a shoe in until I saw The King’s speech, now I’m not sure that Jeffrey Rush won’t be right there. Both were wonderful. Tough choice.

  8. I never gave you the number of Oscars the winner will get, I predict 12.
Anxiously waiting for your review of UNKNOWN!!!

  9. My problem, you all, is that the ones I think should win because they were so extraordinary, will not win because I do not think they fit into a particular mold that the Academy seems to vote for most of the time. For instance, “Social Network” does show better direction simply because it is TODAY and more original than “The King’s Speech” which came out of reality that has been documented as a part of history and, therefore, there was material on it.

  10. Penelope, not sure how we are supposed to submit our Oscars bets! So here goes:

    Actor Colin Firth
    Supporting Actor Christian Bale
    Actress Natalie Portman
    Supporting Actress Melissa Leo
    Director David Fincher
Best Movie Social Network with 3 Oscars

  11. Best Actor–Colin Firth
    Best Supporting Actor–Geoffrey Rush
    Best Actress–Natalie Portman
    Best S Actress–Melissa Leo
Best Film–Black Swan with 4 wins
    Best Director–Darren Aronofsky
