POINT BLANK

(Not to be confused with John Boorman’s 1967 film “Point Blank”)

The French have done it again! After seeing “Mesirne: Killer Instinct” and its sequel, “Public Enemy Number One” it has become natural to expect the thrills and adrenaline- pumping action from this nation of master filmmakers, in this scenario Fred Cavaye. “Point Blank”  seethes with kaleidoscopic fury from one titillating scene to another; a heart- palpating combination of roller-coaster, tilt-a-whirl , jet boating, paragliding, bungee jumping; from the second it starts the viewer is plunged into a world of malfeasance, murder, kidnapping, a dizzying pace of such magnitude, exhaustion, one looses weight in the viewing process.

Featuring the multi- faceted, Gilles Leffouche (starred with Vincent Cassel in “Mesrine:Killer Instinct”) as “Samuel”; the supreme premise of being in the wrong place at the worst, most inappropriate time. He is the metaphor of the guileless victim becoming, because of horrific extenuating circumstances, a hero. There is a chase scene, on foot, that rivals any vehicle performance in movie archives: (“The Chase”, “The French Connection”).

Roschdy Zem depicts “Sartet”, a criminal with a conscience and Elena Anaya (also in “Killer Instinct”)  as “Nadia” the pregnant wife of Samuel give genuine, dashing, credible performances in this 86 minutes of frenetic, manic mayhem.

Here is a film for the macho, the mundane and all in between.

FOUR STARS!!!!
