FILM FESTIVAL UPDATE: INDIA, SRI LANKA, AUSTRALIA

DEKH INDIAN CIRCUS; India, THREE & 1/2 STARS!!! How refreshing to sit through a film where everyone remains fully clothed for its entirety; a family film, dealing with issues that all can empathize with. Warm, charming, compelling story of a mother taking her two children to a circus, an initiation into the practical world, fraught with pain, glory and gripping performances.

KARMA; Sri Lanka; ONE STAR! 88 minutes of sighing, dying, gasping for breath; an unlikely triangle of mismatched personalities, struggling with personal, psychological and physical problems. Certainly alleviated some of my sins by sitting through this purgatorial, excruciating, karmic procedure.

SLEEPING BEAUTY;  Australia, TWO & 1/2 STARS!! Hugely- hyped film about a young woman who resorts to eccentric means to pay for her education; creative procurement. “Lucy” (Ethereal, luminous Emily Browning) is the “beauty” who in desperation enters in the world of the prurient,  macabre. It had its moments but inevitably lost its way and sunk into a mire of disappointment resulting in an extremely unsatisfying conclusion; sans a  handsome “prince” to awaken her.

For Now…………….Peneflix
