“KGF CHAPTER 2” (HINDI: ENGLISH SUBTITLES) THEATRES
Bombastically challenging is the second chapter of Robin Hood facsimile, “Rocky”, a humble boy who rises to gargantuan wealth, power and inspiration of the lower classes; Bollywood hunk, Yash, stars as the gilded gangster (generating adulation in India’s youth) and his monumental physique dominates every pungent, cacophonous moment of this action infused, bloody, gang and government struggle for supremacy scenario. Super star Sanjay Dutt plays a rival warrior with pissant finesse. Skip 2018’s Chapter 1.
TWO & ½ STARS!!
“THE ANATOMY OF A SCANDAL” (NETFLIX)
Excellent acting (Sienna Miller, Rupert Friend, Naomi Scott) imbues, what could have been predictably benign, soapish, fuddle, with stylish acuity; unfaithful, caddish Minister accused of rape by an ex-lover, struggling to maintain equanimity with his wife and children, slowing sinks into the pitfalls created in his Halcyon, university days. Skillfully blended flashbacks gift heft to this menage a trois.
“THE WEEKEND AWAY” (NETFLIX)
Based on the 2020 novel by Sarah Anderson this twisted thriller takes place in breathtaking Croatia: two friends’ rendezvous for a weekend of imbibing, hooking-up and celebrating one’s divorce, the other escaping temporarily, motherhood. Things go immediately awry, and the divorcee disappears. Worthy watching, tail spinning curves lead to a titillating and stunning conclusion.
THREE & ½ STARS!!!
Sam Worthington is profound as “Ray Monroe” a man slowing disintegrating into madness, losing his tenuous hold on reality; after his daughter suffers a broken arm and vanishes, along with her mother, from a hospital, he blames the doctors of stealing them for their organs. Flawed but insightful “Fractured” is a pristine example of the will conquering and concocting in the mind, an alternate reality.
